Barry Burton's "Daffodils: Belle Isle & Detroit" E-Tour

Wednesday, April 21, 2021 11:00am

E-Tours Virtual Tickets $25

The 2020 Daffodils4Detroit luncheon was canceled and it is still unwise to hold a large gathering in 2021.  Still, the world needs the hope and joy only the flowers of spring can bring.

Daffodils4Detroit plans to continue planting daffodils to bring joy and hope each April.  This year, Barry Burton, head of landscape design for the City of Detroit, will take us on the internet for a Zoom E-Tour.

The "Daffodils: Belle Isle & Detroit E-Tour" will allow us to see how much beauty Daffodils4Detroit has helped create. When you buy a Daffodil E-Tour Virtual Ticket or make a purchase in the Daffodil Shop or make a generous donation; your support helps us to reach our goal of 4.5 million daffodils planted in metro Detroit.

Our Tour Guide: Barry Burton

Barry’s official title is a Landscape Designer for the CIty of Detroit General Services Department. While his title covers many
responsibilities,  what he really does is make sure all work on Detroit’s green spaces, - including city parks, parkways, boulevards, and freeway beautification - actually happens. He is Detroit's "Green Man"!

He oversees new plantings including:
Campus Martius, the heart of downtown Detroit; Scarcyny Park and Garden, on the southwest side; and newly landscaped Erma Henderson Park, near Indian Village.

Barry is a Michigan native, who attended Michigan State University. He worked for the city of Chicago, where he became an assistant to the mayor for all landscape-related issues. He returned to work for the city of Detroit and is now project manager for landscape design.

He lives in a downtown Detroit apartment with a riverview balcony. His border collies make sure he gets out for regular walks.
